Super Hero catch up day

So I wanted to make a promise for Lent to go on everyday and the day I tried to make that I promise started my slump, go figure. So today is the catch up day bear with me and we'll get through it together.

Day 6- Favorite Female Super Hero
I like that this starts off easy. Jean Grey hands down is my favorite female superhero. Growing up, there weren't that many characters with red hair and Jean was one of few and she kicked ass. Love Jean as Jean and as Dark Phoenix. She just makes for a great character.

Day 7- Favorite Super Hero Comic
So confession that might get me yelled at, I don't read the comics. Eek!! go easy on me, please. So now that we got that out of the way I guess today's entry is nothing. As the closest thing to comics I read is manga.

Day 8- Superhero Crush
Ah another pretty easy one, Gambit. Gambit is just awesome, before he became a horseman. But still all round just an awesome character and pretty cute. Hey! you can definitely have crushes on cartoon characters, at least I hope so.
Day 9- Best Supervillian
Apocalypse hands down is the best supervillian. The X-men, Brotherhood and Sentinels couldn't take him take down. I think this definitely proves that X-men is my favorite by far.  Apocalypse is woven into every major event in history in some way.Whether it is creating Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) or creating Minister Sinister. Apocalypse has a master plan, one that takes a long time to uncover and delve into.

Day 10- Favorite Superhero Couple
This is a tough one between Jean Grey and Scott Summers and Gambit and Rouge. So I will give it a tie. I like these couples too much, not only cause they feature my favorite heroes. Also the significant others stand on their own. It's not just Gambit's love or Jean's love they are their own fleshed out character which makes for a most interesting couple

Here's hoping that there won't be another slump, til next time.

Super Hero Challenge Day 5

Day 5-Favorite Male Superhero

For this my initial pick is Batman, but at second glance I have to go to the X-Men (of course). I go with Gambit. There is just something about this character that I like. A contributing factor is definitely
his relationship with Rogue, who is amazing herself.

Super(hero) March Day 4

Day 4- Favorite Superhero Universe
So today I had to do some research just to be sure that I was answering the question correctly, I don't want to lie to you guys now. So a Superhero universe is, what I thought it was, the world that the characters live in. Meaning that Marvel has it's story lines/ universe while DC has a completely different story line set/universe. This probably won't come as a surprise to you guys, but my favorite superhero universe is Marvel. The majority of my favorite characters live within this world, so I  just can't say no to this universe. For those people that very specific as to which universe I pick, whether it be movie, comic book or a TV series; I don't have an answer for you quite yet as to my favorite.  However, I can tell you that Brian Singer's X-Men movies, while I adore the team do not top my list, neither does X-Men Evolution, for the simple fact that you CANNOT make Wolverine and Jean Grey completely different ages and take out such a key aspect of the story line.  Let me know what you think.

Superhero Month- Day 3

Day 3-Favorite Superhero Movie
Today is kinda tricky for me, but it might have to be Batman Forever. While I do love the X-men, for whatever reason this movie has a special place in my heart. It's by far my favorite out of the 90's series of Batman movies and I just couldn't "geek out" enough for the Christopher Nolan set. I urge you to give Batman Forever a second look or first if you haven't seen it yet.

Declaring March "The Month of the Superhero"

Since it is a new month, I have decided to attempt to do the 30 day Superhero challenge, wish me luck and hopefully there won't be too much doubling up in posts. Here it goes.

DAY 1- Very First Superhero You Ever Saw.
Wow! Starting it off really hard, I think the first Superhero I ever saw might have been Batman. I grew up around the time that Batman  Spider-man and The X-men all had there own cartoons, so it's tough to say which show I saw first, but I think it was Batman, specifically, the Batman from Batman: the animated series.

DAY 2- Favorite Superhero Show.
Definitely an easier question to answer. The X-men animated series it by far my favorite hands down. Love this show and watched some episodes of it in college when I was bored. Fair warning you will probably hear more about this team in future posts.

Til next time.

MTV's(not so) hilarious train wreck

MTV will never be know for it's wonderfully acted programming or it's ground-breaking reality shows for this generation. However, one of the new shows for this season is a train wreck every episode. This show is Are You the One?. It follows 20 single people (10 women and 10 men), who are horrible at dating as they try to find their "perfect match" amongst the group.

Very few people on this show seem to actually want to find love, instead they're more interested in hooking up and  having fun. While there is nothing wrong with this attitude with the show pitched as people finding love in paradise, you might want to clue your cast in on that fact. I try to watch this show every week, almost due to the fact that I feel the need to finish out the show and see if they will win the million dollars. Ah yes I forgot to mention that they are competing to split the million dollar prize with the group if they can get 10 perfect matches in 10 weeks. Some of the cast are trying to  mastermind strategies as to how they can figure out who the perfect matches are.  I don't understand how you can mastermind a strategy for this game, unless it's be open for everything.

You know that there is 1 person in that house for you and when you are told by the "Truth Booth" that the 2 of you are not a perfect match during week 1, move on. Come on you've known each other for like 7 days if that. REALLY, you're so in love with person that you just met. REALLY!!! If you are not a match, then be open to the other people in the house, but maybe continue to have a friendship with the first person.

I guess that I just don't fully understand the appeal of this show and really just want it to be over. I don't really have a couple to root for, since the ones feature on screen are full of drama and nothing else. I kinda expect the group to fail in there quest for the million, just due to not everyone really getting the goal of being there. Since this show has morphed it's self from a dating show to find love to a competition to win money. As soon as money is involved everyone is in everyone's business about the relationships. This involvement ends up in fights and train wrecks of episodes. The fights also aren't that entertaining which makes it a disappointing.  Sorry MTV maybe the next dating show done will surge full speed ahead.

"Little Kid" Shows

To follow up on my post from before about guilty pleasure shows, today I feel the need to rant about those shows from your childhood that society says you should no longer watch but still do. One such show that I actually watching right now is Power Rangers. As a kid I watched this show with my brother every week and loved it, now it's just so funny. This show is just too corny to not laugh at. While it does have some good moments where it actually is serious, they are very few and far between.  This is when you remember that the show was created for children and take it with a grain of salt. However, the show still does what it is designed to do, entertain or more specifically make me laugh. It also does bring back good childhood memories.  I should also mention that in college on bad days I would watch clips or episodes online, so it hasn't been that long since I watched the show. At some point I have plans to do some sort of  Power Rangers top 10 list, whenever I develop one that I like.

To continue with my rant, I just question why certain shows are frowned upon for adults to watch and it's almost assumed that at a certain point you should no longer watch these shows.  I still watch some of these shows from my childhood, and still find new and exciting things to enjoy about the shows. Digimon, Yu-gi-oh, and Pokemon are on this list along with Power Rangers. These shows bring back wonderful memories from my childhood and in the case of Digimon and Yu-gi-oh are some of my favorite shows.  I believe that shows and movies really don't have an "age limit"or a certain age in which you should no longer be watching a specific show or movie.  This concept is purely socially engineered and not an accurate statement or conclusion. So if you need me, I'll be sitting here watching Power Rangers today and maybe another day it will be Yu-gi-oh.

Til next time.
