007 Binge

After a conversation I had at work this past week I have gone on a 007 binge. Well as much of a binge as I could go on, considering the fact that we have 3 Bond movies and the only on Netflix is Skyfall.  However it was a binge, in my mind, and I have to say that so of the first Bond movies don't have the elements, that are now considered essential Bond. Such as the explosions and the nonstop action. Yes there is intrigue aplenty in the early movies, however some of that focus leads to a slightly less compelling film. Don't get me wrong I love Sean Connery as Bond and he is Bond to me, however my favorite Bond film is Goldeneye and as I had not seen Skyfall before this weekend I was pleasantly surprised by the movie and loved. I was against Daniel Craig as Bond and I am glad to say that I was wrong, very, very wrong. I can't wait to watch Casino Royale  and Quantum of Solace just to see what Daniel Craig does. Who's your favorite Bond and your favorite Bond film. Let me know.

Superhero Challenge Day 23

Day 23- Superhero Whose Story You Wished had Continued
Another easy one! I definitely wished Jean Grey's story had continued, if only for the fact that the Phoenix is just such a powerful force and it would have been amazing to see the story last a little longer.  Also with her being one of my favorite characters I would have like to see more of here and not just the love triangle stuff.

Yet another 30 day challenge catch-up day

So, this week also got away from me (again) and here is another catch-up day for you all.

Day 17- most epic fight scene
This is another easy one for me, it has to be the fight in New York in the Avengers movie.  It was ans amazing fight sequence and very entertaining to watch especially considering the ups and downs that the movie took on with the team, it was a great end to see them working together to save Earth.

day 18 favorite non-super male supporting character
Alfred all the way is the best non-super male supporting character and more specifically, Michael Caine's version of Alfred. The perfect combination of mentor, father, and friend. He just makes the Christopher Nolan trilogy that much better. Love this character.

day 19 favorite non-super female supporting character
For this one I am very conflicted, since most of the non-super female supporting characters are relegated to being "just the girlfriend" of the superhero, which makes them not all that interesting to watch since being just the girlfriend isn't a role anyone wants to celebrate of be apart of, but I guess the girlfriend that I like the best and the one that seems to have the most to her character is Lois Lane.

day 20 favorite villain team
Due to my love of the X-men it should be no surprise that the Brotherhood of mutants is my favorite villain team. I love the concept of mutants and the way that X-men deals with prejudice and all of those issues. Just as the X-men is my favorite super hero team the Brotherhood is my favorite super villain team.  I also love how these teams are constantly changing and evolving, just as people change and evolve.
day 21 favorite weapon, armor or gear
I am slightly unsure as to how to answer this questions due to the fact that my favorite superheros are mutants and therefore really don't have any weapons or armor or gear so my answer for this is sort of like armor. The helmet Magneto wears is a form of armor that protects him from Xavier's telepathy, giving him a distinctive advantage in battle against the X-men and all other foes in general.
day 22 most shocking super hero moment
The most shocking superhero moment is another question that is hard to answer, but it might be the idea that Jason Todd became the Red Hood in Batman, as he was supposedly killed by the Joker and the Joker was thought to have been the Red Hood at some point in time.

Hopefully see you in a day or 2.

Super hero catch up day part 2

So this week really got away from me, so I have another catch-up day to do. Here it goes.

Day 11 Saddest Superhero Scene
Probably the saddest scene would have to be when Bruce Wayne's parents die, because it's so random. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and paid the price, which makes this very sad.

Day 12 Superhero you are most similar to
The Superhero I relate to most is Rogue, due to her being pulled in many different directions. As ultimately, Rogue's power is changes based on who she is around, at least in the beginning.

Day 13 Favorite Super Villain Power
My favorite super power belonging to a villain has got to the Scarlet Witch's power, considering that from what I remember she can essentially do anything she can think of which makes her limited only be her imagination. Which is a very powerful and dangerous idea.

Day 14 Favorite Superhero Sidekick
For this I have to go with probably the most famous sidekick, Robin. While I don't have a particular interest in Robin he is the first sidekick I think of when I think of superheros, which makes him my favorite by default.

Day 15 Favorite Superpower
In case you haven't guessed, my favorite power would have to be telepathy. I think the mind is the most important part of you, so a power based purely on the power of the mind is very appealing to me. Nothing can limit the power of the mind so this power makes the owner virtually all powerful.

Day 16 Favorite Superhero Team
Another answer that I'm sure you could guess already. My favorite team would have to be the X-men, by far. I love the concept of them and that the majority of the powers seem to be unique and all of the characters very different. Which brings an appeal for everyone for this team.

Super Hero catch up day

So I wanted to make a promise for Lent to go on everyday and the day I tried to make that I promise started my slump, go figure. So today is the catch up day bear with me and we'll get through it together.

Day 6- Favorite Female Super Hero
I like that this starts off easy. Jean Grey hands down is my favorite female superhero. Growing up, there weren't that many characters with red hair and Jean was one of few and she kicked ass. Love Jean as Jean and as Dark Phoenix. She just makes for a great character.

Day 7- Favorite Super Hero Comic
So confession that might get me yelled at, I don't read the comics. Eek!! go easy on me, please. So now that we got that out of the way I guess today's entry is nothing. As the closest thing to comics I read is manga.

Day 8- Superhero Crush
Ah another pretty easy one, Gambit. Gambit is just awesome, before he became a horseman. But still all round just an awesome character and pretty cute. Hey! you can definitely have crushes on cartoon characters, at least I hope so.
Day 9- Best Supervillian
Apocalypse hands down is the best supervillian. The X-men, Brotherhood and Sentinels couldn't take him take down. I think this definitely proves that X-men is my favorite by far.  Apocalypse is woven into every major event in history in some way.Whether it is creating Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) or creating Minister Sinister. Apocalypse has a master plan, one that takes a long time to uncover and delve into.

Day 10- Favorite Superhero Couple
This is a tough one between Jean Grey and Scott Summers and Gambit and Rouge. So I will give it a tie. I like these couples too much, not only cause they feature my favorite heroes. Also the significant others stand on their own. It's not just Gambit's love or Jean's love they are their own fleshed out character which makes for a most interesting couple

Here's hoping that there won't be another slump, til next time.

Super Hero Challenge Day 5

Day 5-Favorite Male Superhero

For this my initial pick is Batman, but at second glance I have to go to the X-Men (of course). I go with Gambit. There is just something about this character that I like. A contributing factor is definitely
his relationship with Rogue, who is amazing herself.

Super(hero) March Day 4

Day 4- Favorite Superhero Universe
So today I had to do some research just to be sure that I was answering the question correctly, I don't want to lie to you guys now. So a Superhero universe is, what I thought it was, the world that the characters live in. Meaning that Marvel has it's story lines/ universe while DC has a completely different story line set/universe. This probably won't come as a surprise to you guys, but my favorite superhero universe is Marvel. The majority of my favorite characters live within this world, so I  just can't say no to this universe. For those people that very specific as to which universe I pick, whether it be movie, comic book or a TV series; I don't have an answer for you quite yet as to my favorite.  However, I can tell you that Brian Singer's X-Men movies, while I adore the team do not top my list, neither does X-Men Evolution, for the simple fact that you CANNOT make Wolverine and Jean Grey completely different ages and take out such a key aspect of the story line.  Let me know what you think.

Superhero Month- Day 3

Day 3-Favorite Superhero Movie
Today is kinda tricky for me, but it might have to be Batman Forever. While I do love the X-men, for whatever reason this movie has a special place in my heart. It's by far my favorite out of the 90's series of Batman movies and I just couldn't "geek out" enough for the Christopher Nolan set. I urge you to give Batman Forever a second look or first if you haven't seen it yet.

Declaring March "The Month of the Superhero"

Since it is a new month, I have decided to attempt to do the 30 day Superhero challenge, wish me luck and hopefully there won't be too much doubling up in posts. Here it goes.

DAY 1- Very First Superhero You Ever Saw.
Wow! Starting it off really hard, I think the first Superhero I ever saw might have been Batman. I grew up around the time that Batman  Spider-man and The X-men all had there own cartoons, so it's tough to say which show I saw first, but I think it was Batman, specifically, the Batman from Batman: the animated series.

DAY 2- Favorite Superhero Show.
Definitely an easier question to answer. The X-men animated series it by far my favorite hands down. Love this show and watched some episodes of it in college when I was bored. Fair warning you will probably hear more about this team in future posts.

Til next time.

MTV's(not so) hilarious train wreck

MTV will never be know for it's wonderfully acted programming or it's ground-breaking reality shows for this generation. However, one of the new shows for this season is a train wreck every episode. This show is Are You the One?. It follows 20 single people (10 women and 10 men), who are horrible at dating as they try to find their "perfect match" amongst the group.

Very few people on this show seem to actually want to find love, instead they're more interested in hooking up and  having fun. While there is nothing wrong with this attitude with the show pitched as people finding love in paradise, you might want to clue your cast in on that fact. I try to watch this show every week, almost due to the fact that I feel the need to finish out the show and see if they will win the million dollars. Ah yes I forgot to mention that they are competing to split the million dollar prize with the group if they can get 10 perfect matches in 10 weeks. Some of the cast are trying to  mastermind strategies as to how they can figure out who the perfect matches are.  I don't understand how you can mastermind a strategy for this game, unless it's be open for everything.

You know that there is 1 person in that house for you and when you are told by the "Truth Booth" that the 2 of you are not a perfect match during week 1, move on. Come on you've known each other for like 7 days if that. REALLY, you're so in love with person that you just met. REALLY!!! If you are not a match, then be open to the other people in the house, but maybe continue to have a friendship with the first person.

I guess that I just don't fully understand the appeal of this show and really just want it to be over. I don't really have a couple to root for, since the ones feature on screen are full of drama and nothing else. I kinda expect the group to fail in there quest for the million, just due to not everyone really getting the goal of being there. Since this show has morphed it's self from a dating show to find love to a competition to win money. As soon as money is involved everyone is in everyone's business about the relationships. This involvement ends up in fights and train wrecks of episodes. The fights also aren't that entertaining which makes it a disappointing.  Sorry MTV maybe the next dating show done will surge full speed ahead.

"Little Kid" Shows

To follow up on my post from before about guilty pleasure shows, today I feel the need to rant about those shows from your childhood that society says you should no longer watch but still do. One such show that I actually watching right now is Power Rangers. As a kid I watched this show with my brother every week and loved it, now it's just so funny. This show is just too corny to not laugh at. While it does have some good moments where it actually is serious, they are very few and far between.  This is when you remember that the show was created for children and take it with a grain of salt. However, the show still does what it is designed to do, entertain or more specifically make me laugh. It also does bring back good childhood memories.  I should also mention that in college on bad days I would watch clips or episodes online, so it hasn't been that long since I watched the show. At some point I have plans to do some sort of  Power Rangers top 10 list, whenever I develop one that I like.

To continue with my rant, I just question why certain shows are frowned upon for adults to watch and it's almost assumed that at a certain point you should no longer watch these shows.  I still watch some of these shows from my childhood, and still find new and exciting things to enjoy about the shows. Digimon, Yu-gi-oh, and Pokemon are on this list along with Power Rangers. These shows bring back wonderful memories from my childhood and in the case of Digimon and Yu-gi-oh are some of my favorite shows.  I believe that shows and movies really don't have an "age limit"or a certain age in which you should no longer be watching a specific show or movie.  This concept is purely socially engineered and not an accurate statement or conclusion. So if you need me, I'll be sitting here watching Power Rangers today and maybe another day it will be Yu-gi-oh.

Til next time.

The Guilty Pleasure confessions

Everyone has those 1 or 2 (or 5) shows that they watch but don't tell anybody about because they are somewhat embarrassed to admit that they watch these shows actively. Many guilty please shows fall under the reality TV category or are the target audience is teen girls and they involve a lot of high school drama.  For this blog I would like to reveal my guilty pleasure shows with you guys,  so i guess the secret will be out. when this blog is published.

sean & catherine, des & chris, and trista & ryan
The first guilty pleasure show is The Bachelor.  This show is so ridiculous, I watch it and I cringe at the majority of what the people say. However, I will admit that this show is what will coax me into buying the gossip magazines at the stores. The Bachelor and Bachelorette are just really fun shows to watch and kinda look at as an outsider, especially when people say, "This is my last chance for love" or words to that effect.   While you might not have found lasting love before, chances are there is someone out there for you, you just haven't met them yet. I find this very funny when the people who say this are in their early 20's.  I just think, "Really, this is your last chance for love and you're only 22? Really, did it cross your mind that you haven't lived much of your life yet? Did it?"  While I would like to point out that it has been proven that the process an work, see Trista & Ryan, Ashley & JP, Jason & Molly, Sean & Catherine, and most recently Des &Chris it seems that you have to be open and honest with yourself and the other people on the show. Though, I do have to admit that the most fun of watching this show is seeing the train wrecks and the happily ever afters that form.

collin- too damn good looking for his own good
A similar show to The Bachelor/ Bacherloette is my next guilty pleasure show is actually a recent discovery for me and this show is Sweet Home Alabama. This show follows a Southern belle as she has to make a choice city or country, meaning will she find love with a country boy or a city guy.  This show is pretty funny just for the simple fact that the guys fight among each other so much.  I haven't seen season two in which it was girls fighting for a guy's love, but the guys fighting for a girl is so funny.  I do have to admit that the biggest draw that show has for me, is that I'm a country girl so I know a lot of guys like the ones on the show.  While The Bachelor does give more one liners than this show, it's still good for an amazing laugh.  Since, I just discovered this show I don't have as much to rant about except how good looking Collin is.

mash up
The next guilty pleasure shows are mainly from my childhood and shows that I continue to watch, because they are just too much fun not too. These shows are Yu-gi-oh and Power Rangers, while I fully admit that I shouldn't be watching these shows anymore, I really just can't help myself and would like to take this moment to let you know that I very much a nerd and very proud of this fact. These shows bring out the inner nerd in me and just make me feel like a kid again. These shows are dumb and just kinda fun to watch when you are having a lazy day or want some background noise.
yu-gi, kaiba, noah

What about you, what are your favorite guilty pleasure shows?
